Assize Intelligence

Saturday, 16th April 1808


At Leicester Assizes last week, sentence of death was passed upon Solomon Herring, England Herring, and Mary Herring, (three Gipsies) for sheep-stealing; upon Wm. Sharpe, for highway robbery; William Smith and T. Wilcox, for horse-stealing; and John Hubbard, for privately stealing in a dwelling-house, to the value of 20s.

The Grand Jury at these Assizes entered into resolutions to drive the mutton-eating race of Gipsies out of the country.
