King Of The Gipseys

Monday, 3rd January 1803

The noted Stanley, King of the Gipseys, has at length terminated his earthly career.
He died lately by the road-side, in his cart, in the parish of Affpuddle, in Dorsetshire, attended only by two females. He had completed his 82nd year, possessed of strength and vigour, when he was taken ill of the small-pox.

This family, of which he was the head, was very noted in this and the neighbouring counties. He had ten sons, all stout able men, and were well known at all the principal markets, races, fairs etc. throughout the kingdom.
