Saturday, 19th March 1796

At Chelmsford assizes, Richard Chilcott, alias Lee, and George Smith, were capitally convicted for a burglary in the house of Richard Grout, of Manuden, in Essex, on the 21st of Dec. last, which being accompanied with several acts of cruelty, the Judge informed them they must not entertain the least hopes of mercy on this side of the grave.
Both the culprits belong to the fraternity of Gipsies.

John Jones, and James Smith, were convicted at the same assizes, for robbing the Hon. Capt. Eardley, on the highway, near Ilford.
